Fortunately, advocates have persuaded the agency to postpone implementation of the policy until July 22, 2011. Advocates such as the Massachusetts Chapter of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys (MANAELA) seek to secure the signatures of as many legislators as possible in opposition to the policy.

The hope is that with enough signatures, Executive Office of Health and Human Services Secretary, Judy Ann Bigby, would be persuaded to reinstate the existing policy which requires MassHealth to pay for a recipient's bed in a skilled nursing facility for a period of ten days
